"Welcome to Pittsburgh" Night

This event will be held on August 18, 2019, the day after the Garage Giveaway.

This is a chance for us to welcome you - new students - to our program! There is no need to pre-register for this. Just come to learn more about P.R.I.S.M. and enjoy some American-style food!

 

 

Open House

Fall Semester 2016:  September 11 - December 11

Sunday evenings, 6:00 - 8:00 pm

Cost: $1

Located at Bellefield church (4001 Fifth Avenue-across from the Pitt Book Center), enter by Thackeray St. doors.

This weekly event is an informal time to share a meal and meet other internationals and Americans. A light supper is followed by a discussion time where you can practice your English.  Sometimes we feature a guest speaker.  This is also a place where you can learn more about P.R.I.S.M., meet the staff, and sign up for our activities.

Just show up and bring a friend along.  Children are welcome.  There is usually a vegetarian food option available.  The cost is $1 per person for supplies.There is no need to pre-register for this.  However if you do fill out a registration form, we will send you weekly reminders about Open House and other P.R.I.S.M. events.

English Conversation Group

Monday night: English Conversation Group is held downstairs in the fellowship hall at Bellefield from 7-8:30 PM.

Wednesday night: English Conversation Group is held at Fourth Presbyterian Church (5450 Friendship Avenue) from 6:30-8 PM.

This is a place to come practice your spoken English without the stress of grades! It is free of charge.

We will help you become more comfortable speaking on a large variety of topics concerning life, ideas, and culture. For more information contact Christa Lind: christa.prism@gmail.com.

 

Friendship Partners

Develop a meaningful friendship with an American family. P.R.I.S.M. will help to match you with a local family so you can meet and get to know one another. You can also celebrate holidays together—as friends and families! It provides a great way for you to enjoy American culture, learn English, and to have fun. It is suggested that you make time to meet your friendship partner at least one time per month. A long-term cross-culture relationship starts here.

Cooking Class

Details "To Be Announced"

Did you know that chipped ham, klondikes, and sticky buns are native Pittsburgh foods?

You can learn more about American food in our cooking class.  Each class a guest will demonstrate how to prepare a food item or meal.  When it is finished, we will eat it together!  Join us in the kitchen for fun, food, and fellowship. 

The class takes place in a local home in Shadyside, and there is a $5 charge each class for supplies.

Bible Studies

Throughout the week there are several Small Groups that meet where you can get together and study the Bible:

Monday evenings: 5:30-7:00pm Discovery Bible study at Bellefield Church, downstairs in room B4. This is a good place to come if you have never read the Bible, or if you are still learning about Christianity. Dinner is provided at 5:30, and we end in time for you to go to English Conversation afterwards. Contact Scott at sboyd.prism@gmail.com for details.

Monday evenings: 5:30-7:00pm Spanish Bible study at Bellefield Church, downstairs in the room next to the kitchen.  Fluent in Spanish? This is a great place to keep in touch with your Spanish speaking roots and meet new Spanish-speaking friends!  And join us for English Conversation aftertwards. Wednesday mornings: 10am - 12pm. An opportunity to examine the Book which has been the single most important factor in influencing the traditional American value system.  This study is for women only. It combines English practice and discussion of the basic teachings of Bible.  Meets at Bellefield Presbyterian Church (4001 Fifth Avenue-across from Pitt Book Center). Free child-care provided.
